Welcome to the Agatha Christie Wikia! We are so glad you decided to drop in on the encyclopaedic home of the Queen of Crime! On this site you will find an ever-growing encyclopaedia of everything associated with Christie. If you're new to Christie's works and want to know which book to read first - it all depends!

For new users

How do I look for a page?

It all depends. If you are looking for a novel or a play, write the British title for it. If you don't know what the original name is, try looking for the novel's name in your language (e.g. L'heure zero for Towards Zero) and it will appear! For now we have translations in Italian, Swedish, French, Czech and German.

What if I am looking for a character?

Let's say you want to know something about Dr Sheppard from The Murder of Roger Ackroyd or Superintendent Spence. Try searching for the name with or without the title. In general, the titles of articles of characters tend to bear the names exactly as Agatha Christie used them. She understood British conventions of her time regarding when to use a title and when not to.

Reading ideas

  • Do you like female sleuths? - then try Murder at the Vicarage - featuring Miss Jane Marple - the unassuming spinster with a mind like a steel trap.
  • If you prefer your detectives male (and egotistical Belgians in particular) then Hercule Poirot is your man - start with The Mysterious Affair at Styles (Christie's first novel) or the ground-breaking The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.
  • If you are looking for some masterpieces of adrenaline, why not check out The Secret Adversary?, the first Christie novel featuring the adventurous couple by the name of Tommy and Tuppence.
  • Other Christie gems include The A.B.C. Murders (serial killing with a difference), Cat Among the Pigeons (murder at an elite girls' boarding school), And Then There Were None (10 strangers doomed to die on an island) and Five Little Pigs (was a mother charged with murder, innocent?).
  • Or why not explore the world of Mary Westmacott, the nom-de-plume of Christie?, a name under which she wrote six novels completely different from anything she'd done before.

Christie was a truly versatile writer, and her prolific literary career often overshadows her equally successful career as a playwright. To this day Christie remains the only person to have three different plays running in the West End at the same time, one of which, The Mousetrap, is still running, now in it's 61st year! But the best way to enjoy Christie is to find your own favourites - and then discuss them with fellow fans. Why not download the complete chronological list of Christie's novels and short story collections and check off what you've already read? Alternatively Christie's grandson recommends his best Christie Novels.

Spelling and grammar

Agatha Christie was an English writer (even if her father was American), therefore this wiki uses British English spelling and grammar.

Titles of works

Pages for works written Christie uses the original British title, unless another title is in more use today, for example And Then There Were None.

Spoilers

This wiki contains spoilers for many of the works by Christie. One exception is the stage play The Mousetrap. Since the audience of the play in the West End is asked not to spoil the ending, neither does this wiki.

Academics create formula to find Agatha Christie killers

She's known as the Queen of Crime for her tricky mysteries, but researchers use math to predict her plot twists.

UKTV channel Drama commissioned a team of university research fellows and data analysts to analyze 27 of Agatha Christie’s 83 books, following in the footsteps of her two famous sleuths, Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.

If Agatha Christie was alive today, she might be inclined to bump off the entire team of academics who’ve created a formula to predict the killers in the Queen of Crime’s mysteries.

Known for her red herrings, plot twists and knowledge of poisons, Christie’s secrets are being spilled by the spoilsports who’ve figured out a formula to her crimes.
