Here's What the Cast of <i>Love Actually</i> Looks Like Now (2024)

Clearly wise beyond his years, Sam (Brodie-Sangster) understood the transformative power of love at a young age. Now 29 years old, Brodie-Sangster is most recognizable for playing Jojen Reed in Game of Thrones and Newt in the Maze Runner films. He does a convincing southern accent in the Netflix show Godless, as well.

Liam Neeson plays Daniel, a grieving but resilient widower. Tragically, Neeson’s life took a similar course to Daniel’s when, in 2009, his wife Natasha Richardson, passed away after a skiing accident. Despite tragedy, Neeson’s career continued to flourish. The Taken series cemented him as an action star, with future roles in thrillers like Men in Black: International, The Commuter, and The Grey, a truly terrifying movie set in the desolate tundra. Recently, he starred alongside Viola Davis in Widows.

Rickman passed away in 2016 at the age of 69. He will be remembered for his work in the Harry Potter movie series, Die Hard, and Sense and Sensibility. Of all his roles, Love Actually is especially poignant: Rickman and Emma Thompson, who played his wife in the film, collaborated frequently. Rickman’s one-of-a-kind voice is forever preserved as Martin, the computer in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Of course Thompson is still at the Hollywood forefront. In 2019, she was in the chilling HBO series Years and Years, and the hilarious movie Late Night. Finally, after starring in an iconic holiday film, she’s moved on to creating her own. She wrote and starred in Last Christmas.

Firth first cemented his status as a romantic idol with the TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, then Bridget Jones’ Diary and The Importance of Being Earnest. Firth later won an Academy Award for his performance as the stuttering King George VI in The King’s Speech in 2010. By the time Moniz appeared in Love Actually, she was already an established performer with two albums and TV credits under her belt. In fact, in 1996, when Lucia Moniz was 19, she represented Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest. Aside from her stint in Love Actually, she’s mostly kept to Portuguese entertainment.

Natalie, Martine McCutcheon’s Love Actually character, needed better friends. She was constantly underestimated (and body-shamed!) by the people around her. Martine’s happy ending comes in the form of being the prime minister’s girlfriend. McCutcheon’s career started long before Love Actually—she played Tiffany Mitchell in the BBC’s long-running show EastEnders. Over the years, McCutcheon has been an actress, pop star, and presenter. She’s also been vocal about her struggle with Lyme disease and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Most recently, she was in a film called Bromley Boys.

Hugh Grant’s career is a way to measure how much time has passed. He’s no longer the floppy-haired dreamboat in most of Richard Curtis’s rom-coms, starting with Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) and then onto Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’ Diary, and Love Actually. Though he still stars in rom-coms, like Music and Lyrics and The Rewrite, Grant’s repertoire has grown: Recently, he's been the devoted husband of an older woman in Florence Foster Jenkins, and a British politician with a secret in A Very English Scandal. However, his greatest star turn of late was as Phoenix Buchanan, the well-dressed villain of Paddington 2.

In Love Actually, Rowan Atkinson makes an unforgettable appearance as a fussy jewelry salesman who painstakingly wraps a gift. Atkinson’s career is based on that kind of unique physical humor, always deployed in exaggerated (and hilarious) ways. He’s most famous for his character Mr. Bean—though the goofy spy in the Johnny English films is delightful, too.

Rodrigo Santoro played Karl, the unsung heartthrob of Love Actually. Born in Brazil, Santoro has made a career in Hollywood. He was unrecognizable as Xerxes, the bedazzled and arrogant Persian king, in 300 and its sequel 300: Rise of an Empire. Lost fans will know him as Paulo, one half of a doomed couple. Now, he’s in Westworld, a similarly mind-bending drama.

Laura Linney is one of those actresses who seems to pop up in everything—and win awards for everything, too. She's earned Emmys for Frasier, John Adams, and the cancer drama The Big C, and is racking up acclaim for her recent role in Ozark. She's also earned two Golden Globes, and has been nominated for three Academy Awards and four Tonys. So, let's not feel bad that her character, Sarah, had such a sad storyline in Love Actually—Linney is thriving.

Love Actually'sColin Frissel develops a theory: No American woman can resist his charming British accent. Colin's ensuing trip to Milwaukee proves his theory correct. Since his time cracking up audiences as Love Actually’s goofy, but determined, playboy, Kris Marshall has become a staple on British TV. He flaunted his comedic side in the sitcoms My Family and Citizen Khan, as well as the darkly funny film Death at a Funeral. But he has range! Marshall played cops in Death in Paradise and Murder Series, and came this close to being the next iteration of the Doctor in Doctor Who.

Chances are you recognize January Jones as Betty Draper, the disaffected (and occasionally rifle-wielding) housewife of Mad Men. But back in 2003, Jones was still looking for her big break. In Love Actually, Jones plays Jeannie, one of the women charmed by Colin’s British accent in the Milwaukee bar. Her role is technically “Jeannie—American Angel,” believe it or not. Jones appeared in American Wedding, the final installment of the American Pie series, the same year—another relic of her pre-stardom days. Catch her most recently in The Politician.

Rounding out the trio of Colin’s gorgeous American women is Ivana Milicevic, who played Stacy, the “American Dreamgirl.” Milicevic has had guest appearances in a number of shows, like Psych and The 100, but her longest-running role has been as Carrie Hopewell in Cinemax’s Banshee.

Technically, Elisha Cuthbert’s role in Love Actually is “Carol-Anne—American Goddess.” Only three years before becoming a so-called “American goddess,” Cuthbert had been in Disney’s Are You Afraid of the Dark? Cuthbert spent the 2000s starring in 24. In the 2010s, she turned toward comedy, with roles in the shows Happy Endings and The Ranch.

She had a cameo in Love Actually as Carla, the American woman whom Colin brings back to the U.K. As of 2019, she is on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Martin Freeman has a minor, but memorable, part in Love Actually: He plays John, a nude body double who falls in love with his co-star. Though he’s extremely famous now, Freeman never left that awkward charm behind. In fact, it’s what made his career. Freeman rose to fame in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005), but his starring roles as John Watson in Sherlock and Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit trilogy are what made him a star. Now, catch him throughout the Marvel universe as Everett K. Ross. He also recently mastered a Minnesota accent for his role as police officer Lester Nygaard in Fargo.

Joanna Page played Judy, the body double with a crush, in Love Actually. Since Love Actually, Page has become a regular on British TV shows, with prominent roles in Gavin and Stacey, Breathless, and The Syndicate. She also played Queen Elizabeth I in Doctor Who, practically a rite of passage for a British actress.

Mark’s (Andrew Lincoln) famous poster-board message to Juliet (Keira Knightley) is the most enduring image of Love Actually. Even if Mark couldn’t move past his love for Juliet, Andrew Lincoln’s career has moved far beyond Mark. Now, he fights zombies professionally. For eight years, Lincoln starred as Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead.
