Despite being in the same conference, this was the first matchup between the two squads since 2022. FSU is now the lone remaining ACC team left in the CWS and will play top overall seed Tennessee in the semifinals on Wednesday, needing to beat the Vols twice to advance to the championship series. The Tar Heels lost to UT on Sunday for their other loss in the double-elimination portion of the College World Series.

Aidan Haugh earned the start for UNC but was relieved after 2 1/3 innings after allowing three earned runs on three hits. He struck out three and walked three. Relief ace Dalton Pence allowed four earned runs on eight hits.

In his final game with UNC, Vance Honeycutt finished 3 for 5 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. This marked UNC’s sixth CWS appearance since 2006, but first since 2018. The Tar Heels opened the CWS with a 2-1 win over No. 12 national seed Virginia but then dropped its next two against Tennessee and FSU to end its season.
